Some miniatures from manuscripts in the Bibliotheque Nationale in France.
Froissart's Cronicles show some scenes of handbow and crossbow archers at war. Some of the crossbowmen are shown using windlass spanners. Also worth checking out is Gaston Phoebus's Book of the Hunt from the 15th century -- the stag hunt miniatures show archers, including spanning a crossbow with a belt hook.
